I always liked gadgets. News. I like to try new things. But not only. I like to try. Stop. And I think I've always been like this. Since my grandfathers' reel reader, or Super 8. From my first Polaroid. From the first chemistry set to the magic kits. From the Boy Scout's manual.
I don't see myself without the Internet today. Without the iPhone. Without my Mac. Without Kindle. No Last.fm. No Spotify. Without the Divx reader and... without the pause moments (with a good Syrah).
The truth is I don't consider myself a consumerist (materialist... maybe). I consider myself a rule in spending. But the taste for novelty makes me what the industry calls “ early adopter “.
Engineers call guys like me “ beta testers “because we are the ones who take with the first bugs, problems, errors that are fixed in the following versions in order to make the “later adopters” happy. And more than happy, many feel smarter to know how to wait and call us “precipitated” because we cannot wait.
For me the truth is different. What defines an “early adopter” is the curiosity of seeing the future. To anticipate what will be. To know firsthand. To feel often the “I saw the future and you didn’t!”
