The Importance of a Warm Welcome

Image not recoveredMedia from the original archive Those who know me closely, easily recognize the importance that the word “welcome” has in my universe. Usually because it is a kind of paladin (habit shared with a old friend ) the difference between the first name “Blessed” (in the female, “Blessed”) and the adjective “welcome” that I stubbornly try to correct. But the adjective “welcome” represents much more in my universe. It represents the importance of a simple act often forgotten: the good to receive.

As in almost everything we do in life, we easily complicate what is simple. In our marketing strategies by complicating, we lose basic opportunities.

Welcome emails represent one of these simple opportunities to involve potential customers, usually forgotten or underestimated. They represent a unique opportunity to “welcome”.

As important as the creation of an email marketing campaign or simple Newsletter is, when we underestimate the simple act of “welcome”, we can easily miss an excellent opportunity to increase the level of interaction with customers or potential customers.

Welcome messages should be the first step used to amplify the initial engagement created when you somehow access our services. Usually we just send a simple welcome message or a confirmation. There is so much more to be done in a welcome message that the opportunity cannot be wasted!

Twitter: tell me where you're going...

    Twitter Logo

It doesn't come back, there are phenomena that I have some difficulty in “breathing”. Twitter is one of them.

“Social experiences” fascinate me. But there's something on Twitter that tells me nothing and simultaneously says a lot.

On the one hand, a kind of lazy blog (messages are short), but at the same time practical, mixed with the phenomenon of social networking that in this case allows us to follow the day-to-day of those who are near us physically or intellectually, or just... because.

On the other hand, back to the times of IRCs (a hint of nostalgia)? Only Web!

Well... I created an account ( http://twitter.com/vitormagalhas ) and I'm exploring to get back to the topic later.

For now, I leave one of the best tutorial series I've found on YouTube:

    Accidental leadership

http://vitormagalhaes.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/accidental_leadership.gif Today, at the invitation of Tecnidata, I went to the House of Music to attend a conference of Tomaz Morais on leadership, motivation and “team building”.

Not being a business management guru, taking Ruby's selection to the World Cup, Tomaz made history. And you did more than lead a team. He was responsible for putting a country that does not elect Rugby as his favorite sport to vibrate with his claw, with his will, with the strength with which he heard sing the National Anthem.

It is not the first time that Tomaz Morais has been invited by companies to explain that what led to the selection of the world can be transposed into everything in life, including business management. He had already done so with other companies (at least with ERA and PrimeDrinks).

I like the initiative. I like Tomaz. Nice to hear. The “genuine” is always good to hear.

Although I've never been a fan or a connoisseur of Rugby (I'm an ignorant total... maybe it was Sunday afternoons on RTP 2, during my childhood... it was always Rugby), too I was enjoying more... congratulations! To Tomaz, Lobos and Tecnidata.

    Generation 2.0

It is a common place to say that new generations are more “informed”; they treat technology by “you”; they connect the DVD connected to the AV amplifier alone... to Generation 2.0

In fact, if Customer 2.0 presents the challenges it presents, what will the Customer be that will originate in this Generation 2.0?

I got it this week, sent by mine. Big Friend Kapa, the following pearl:

Note: André Sá, says the My friend. who understands tennis and Brazil, is “O” brazilian tennis player.

    On the Side: Well-Informed People

    Old Phone Boston Post (1865):

“Any well-informed person knows that it is impossible to convey voice over wires and that, even if it were possible, it would have no practical value.”

Despite this prediction, the phone entered our lives the way we know it.

Phone numbers were chosen in the USA with the opposite principle as the typewriter; they were chosen to encourage speed dialling.

When the “indicatives” were introduced, the largest cities had lower numbers because they took less time to score. New York was “212” and although New Jersey is logically “213” both numbers could easily be exchanged for what was attributed “213” to Los Angeles and “312” to Chicago.

Note: At this time, “speed” was the speed of dialing the phone! At the time of the “pulse” marking!

A brilliant announcement on the subject:

At this point... It took instructions. 🙂

    Google Ad Manager

Google Ad Manager About two weeks ago, Google concluded, after EU approval, the DoubleClick acquisition. At the same time launched the AdSense Ad Manager...independent actions? No way! The truth is this subtle release made DoubleClick's purchase a... brilliant!!!

By buying DoubleClick, everyone sees Google wanting to expand their online advertising network. In fact, Google will use the DoubleClick distribution platform as a complementary service.

Currently, small networks of advertisers use free open-source platforms such as Open Ads. Google Ad Sense Manager will occupy this space and allow you to manage, for free, campaigns, control distribution, print statistics and clickthroughs.

By helping to manage these campaigns directly, Google gains direct access to advertisers (who did not “use” Ad Sense!) and can convince them to use the unoccupied space with AdSense campaigns. Great? Googlial! Once again...

Guy Kawasaki takes Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer down...

An interview of Guy Kawasaki Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft. It's worth seeing... if it isn't for the fact that Ballmer put himself on the floor during the interview, on his knees, while he's looking for the Mac Book Air DVD drive. Otherwise, Ballmer also goes to the “floor” while answering some pertinent questions about Vista...

    I won't comment. It's worth seeing...

    Innovation and Spring

Primaver Academy Today is March 21st and spring begins...

This week I attended at the invitation of Spring, the seminar of Rowan Gibson, “Making Innovation Happen”.

A positive note to the BSS Spring initiative and its “ Spring Academy “, which innovates in the relationship with its customers and partners, betting on training and knowledge sharing with the Executive Seminars and “Mini MBAs”.

Nevertheless, I confess that I am usually very sceptical about seminars. I rarely think it's worth going to a seminar. Except, of course, when we have the opportunity to listen to someone, like in this case, really good!

I'm always more interested in the way they organize and expose ideas than... the themes. We have more to learn from speakers than what they advocate and disclose.

The seminars, when good (and this, though long, was good!) have at least the best value of making us stop a few moments, listen and reflect on topics that often gravitate in our daily lives.

Innovation was discussed globally, focusing on the market and on companies. For me, as far as innovation is concerned, there is concern about how to get Portugal to innovate quickly enough and with sufficient “amplitude and depth” to bring its pace of economic growth closer to the most advanced standards.

For this, and so that Portugal’s effort to innovate does not become “presided” to any technology, company, or business area, it is important to promote the pleasure of discovering and the taste of learning, of undertaking, the culture of undertaking and taking risks. No fear of failure! The culture of failure is equal to the culture of innovation!

For the initiative, thank you Spring! Both of you!

Some ideas, notes/considerations I took from the seminar:
