The End of the End of Internet Marketing (as we know it, of course!)

byside_o-150x150.jpg Let’s face it: everything changes. In the past things were slower. Nowadays, they are faster and faster. Everything changes. Everything evolves. That’s normal. In the on demand and real time economy, tomorrow is not only another day. Tomorrow is a brand new day.

So whenever I hear that something is ending, at least as we know it, I think: so what?

Change and innovation don’t usually happen in a blitz! Usually they are a result of a combination of variables at the right moment with creativity or, sometimes, just a sense of opportunity. But it’s rarely the end of something.

The end of Facebook? We heard some voices about it a few years ago. The end of vinyl? Yep, people talked about it more than 20 years ago. Oh, by the way, remember Google Wave? Yes, and the end of email! Uber and the end of Taxis! And of course, Internet privacy, tracking, cookies and the end of Internet Marketing (or advertising)!

So, the end of Internet Marketing (as we know it)? What does it mean?

Jumping to the conclusion: Absolutely nothing!

    Dear Blog. I’m back!

    Me

    Dear Blog. I’m back!

It has been a while since my last interaction.

In these last 3 years I’ve been away from you. Not that I stopped caring but sometimes we need to stop and make choices. Choices about where we put our efforts in translating our thoughts, vision and beliefs in the real world.

I haven’t been lost in translation! I’ve just been translating away. Translating thoughts into music, people, my family and always By Side.

Now I’m back. And since you are my personal journal, I will write about me. About what I care. About music, media, rumbling thoughts and of course, my work.

There will be a difference from the past: I will do it in English. This is a way to avoid being language lazy and to make an effort to improve it. So… forgive and forget about typos and other errors.

I look forward to writing you.

    Yours faithfully,

    ../vitor

    Cookies: Neither Bullets nor Cakes

Although it is a theme that has long been rich in misconceptions, Cookies return to is an important theme for all companies that directly or indirectly fit into the Law No46/2012 of 29 August 2012.

The law, a classic example of legislation written by someone who does not understand the context in which itself fits, uses and abuses the basic ingredients to frighten those, such as those who wrote the law, do not know anything about Internet, privacy or online advertising.

To say that Cookies are used to track users on the Internet, invading Artane online to prescribe their privacy and leaving to the imagination all remotely associated evils (e.g. viruses, Trojans, worms, phishing, email spam, etc.), without explaining their advantages, and to create a law that obliges all sites to, on a first visit, say “ On our website we intend to use Cookies to follow your navigation, perform behavioral analysis and segmentation that allows us to sell you products and services that we perceive to be of interest to you. Do you accept the use? Yes or no?" is at least... (I refuse to adject publicly).

Even more so when the law forgets to mention/admit that, in many situations, the only way to know that a user does not want to use Cookies is... through a “DO NOT TRACK” Cookie (a mere detail).

Cookies alone are not bad or risky. It is only a “mouth” of information that recalls a visit and that can help the visitor in future visits... have a positive side. But as in everything, what is positive can become negative when used the wrong way!

As always, a little more (information) instead of imposition!

    The 3D-Printing Revolution

“There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come.” Victor Hugo

Image not recovered3dprinting Much of the latest technological innovations are simple incremental improvements on existing services, solutions or devices.

Iphone 5 is an incremental improvement on Iphone 4s. Facebook? Incremental improvement over other social networks. Twitter? Blogging + SMS.

3D printing, promise and excitement! Enthusiasm for the ability to (r)evolve everything. Manufacturing processes, industries, ability to do and build, creativity, control of rights, legislation and a number of issues that I am not even able to describe or imagine.

The latest developments in this technology, with the creation of faster, cheaper, color-based printers, collaborative sharing (creating new prospects for peer-to-peer) and the creation of “early starters*” communities in “ home 3D printing ” that build their own 3D printer from “Do it Yourself” kits We have the example of Celso ), bring the spirit of “open source” from the digital world to the physical world.

    The Clear Importance of Now

Clara There's a time in our lives when we feel everything connects. That nothing's new. That everything is a cycle of something we've seen, lived or felt.

And this is where we feel that the years go by faster (yes, we feel that we are getting old!).

My cat Clara died on Sunday. The previous Monday was playing with the energy you always had. On Tuesday I went to meet her in a corner. When I took her, I didn't purr. When he tried to play, he lay down. I realized I wasn't well and I took her to the vet right away. Bad prognosis. Chronic renal failure. I had to stay in the hospital. It was until Sunday, when they stopped treatment and reported that the kidneys had not reacted and that there was nothing else to do.

We brought her home and at night she died in my arms.

    Clara — 4/7/1998 to 29/4/2012

![Clara rodeada por brinquedos](Clara rodeada por brinquedos

    )

My cat Clara died on Sunday. He died in my arms. It was 14 on the Fourth of July.

It hurt. Very. Not that I've ever been a “animal lover” but... it hurt as much as it hurts whenever you lose something or someone that was part of your life.

Clara, besides being my first and only cat, accompanied me in more than a quarter of my life. An important room of life. It's important because it's the last one and that's why it's there.

A room of life where my children were born and which defines my present life. Where my most recent memories fit in. Important for being... important.

Clara was a friend. When I arrived, I came to say hello. When I sat down, I'd come to you for a treat. When I was working at home, I'd keep my desk company next to my laptop. When I sensed a sad person, I would give “snakes” with my nose in the corner of my eyes, as if to say, “Do not cry!”.

In the morning, I missed you and stood by the bathtub while I was bathing. Probably worried about the lack of sense of a consented bath.

If being a friend is knowing how to listen, follow, be on the sidelines, like to receive, be balanced, without excesses or hysteria, I can say that man's best friend is not (just) the dog.

I have had, and like, dogs, by Clara today I say “I am more of cats”.

*P.S.: Apart from the post “personal”, Clara is responsible for “activating” the Blog. And it's to continue...

iPad, iAd, Twitter and, again, Marketing

Image not recoverednew marketing2 The last few weeks have been very busy with online advertising.

First the launch of iPad and the market to think how to take advantage, how to create content and how to position (it has been noticed that what works on the iPhone does not work well on iPad, and vice versa). Next, Apple presents its mobile advertising platform, the iAD. It has been noticed that:

    • It will require additional creativity in the creation of integrated advertising with the applications and that the user participate;

    • It's launched by Apple! Whether you like it or not, with 50 million iPhones on the market... it's supposed to be taken seriously.

    ♪ To help... ♪

Twitter, without great news, presented its (expected) advertising platform, the “ sponsored Tweets “, which will appear in the middle of the Tweets of users whose content is relevant to the advertiser (only Google AdWords, no?).

Another format, or a means, to consider planning an online campaign.

    **Sponsored Tweets opinion.... **

Twitter is a fantastic tool for behavior monitoring but it is not a good tool for behavior manipulation that, at the limit, is all advertising is.

Typical Twitter user does not “search” tweets, only passively absorbs them. If advertising starts to be too intrusive (spam), it will happen to Twitter the same thing that happened to eMail: spam filters!

I have doubts about the success of the "Sponsored Tweets", but... it's waiting to see.

    ** again, Marketing!**

If up to now online advertising was summed up (bad!) to display campaigns (banners) and search (e.g. AdWords), with iAD, "Sponsored Tweets" and the whole social media phenomenon, we entered a new era of advertising. A new era in which the levels of demand in the knowledge and planning of a campaign, in addition to larger ones, are intrinsically linked to the brand and customer. A new era of change in which it is necessary to abandon advertising models and create new, better marketing models. Models that go much further and focus entirely on the consumer, his connections and his real needs.
