The ABC of the Crisis, for Kids and Grown-ups

A video from “Say it Visually” to understand what motivates the financial crisis that, although initiated in the North American continent, by the negative makes us feel the effect of globalization. A very basic animation but worth the message.

Mr. Obama, 10 commandments to end the crisis!

Continuing with the theme of the crisis, a brilliant presentation of  Juan Enriquez  in  Pop! Tech. It's a mandatory video about the circumstances surrounding the current crisis.

Juan Enriquez (2008) Pop!Tech Pop! Cast from PopTech on Vimeo.

Although (trying) to follow the Pop!, following the previous post, I found this video in one of the best architectural blogs I know: the belly of an architect. And it's Portuguese!

A Gem: The Web at Its Best… Emotion!

    http://www.dayswithmyfather.com

I received recently, sent by a friend, a link friend of a site that I could not help but share and comment. It's a website. But it's not a website anymore. It's a beautiful website. For aesthetics. It is a beautiful website because it shows that the web is not cold. It's a beautiful website because it uses the Web to expose a life, a story, a father, a son. It's a beautiful site because it's of extreme sensitivity. It's a beautiful site because it represents the most beautiful and meaningful tribute I've ever seen to a lifetime. It's a beautiful website because it represents the tribute to a father, told by a son. It is a beautiful website because it shows how you remember and eternalize on the web. “Remember” is like that and not otherwise. Beautiful and meaningful. Look...

On the Side: The Origin of @

at.png One of the symbols that the Internet has most banalized and whose origin we do not question... what is the origin of “@”? I remembered and went to see.

“@” appears in several 14th century documents as short of “ amphore “, a ceramic pot of normal size that is normally used as a measure for trade in olive oil and wine gave rise to “ at the price of “, that is, a currency exchange unit.

The old symbol was used for hundreds of years in calculating and typing machines. Recently, its use in computers turned it into “at” or, in Portuguese, arroba (any similarity to a unit of measurement?:)).

Tomlison, through a Model 33, felt that it would be necessary to use a symbol that did not appear in anyone's name avoid confusion. The “@/at” was a logical choice, either because it was not used in names or because it represented the word “at”, indicating that a given user would be “@/at” a specific computer.

Today... forget about him and forget about the e-mails!

Education 2.0: Did you know that...

The state of our teaching has troubled me for a long time. It disturbs me that the discussion on education is almost just ** and just about claims and rights. About unions. About strikes. It disturbs me because I have two children. It disturbs me because I passively watch a system that was already dead in my time and which today... stands. It disturbs me that very few “breathe” the changes of this new world...

Some key questions about “ Education 2.0 ” to make us think** and... talk:

    • What is the initial reaction after this presentation?

    • How do these “changes” manifest themselves in our personal lives? What about professionals?

    • What does it mean to prepare students for the 21st century? What knowledge and abilities does a student need to survive and go through this new era?

    • What are the implications of all this in our way of doing things?

    • Do we need to change? If so, how?

    • How do we get from here to there?

    • What challenges do we have to overcome as we move forward?

    • What support do we need as we move forward?

    • What kind of training/learning do we need as we move forward?

    • What kind of commitments do we have to make (with each of us, with students and with the community) to move on?

    • Who's scared? Why?

    • What do we do next? What concrete steps can we take in the near future?

    • Today, is it possible for a teacher to be an excellent teacher if he does not know how to use technology?

Interactive marketing: Optimus Zero and Soraia Chaves

    http://zero.optimus.pt

Another interactive campaign BySide, this time to promote the tariff Optimus Zero and developed with Euro RSCG.

Like the TV spot, the campaign is based on the image of Soraia Chaves, a female campaign guy.

In the interactive section (the BySide component) Soraia Chaves asks the user to give you his telephone number to call him and, in private, explain the advantages of the Optimus Zero tariff.

The interaction has as variant to recognize that the user has returned, changing the interaction of Soraia Chaves and the call message. If the user doesn't leave his cell phone number Soraia Chaves gets bored and leaves.

It is also possible to “send to a friend”, that is, by providing a friend’s mobile phone, Soraia calls you to inform you of the conditions of Optimus Zero tariff.

As in all BySide campaigns, the component of profile creation, behavioral analysis, lead analysis, conversion, etc. is present.

For now, the campaign can be seen at: http://zero.optimus.pt

    Beam me up, Scotty!

And speaking of holographic videos, if I never really believed in the video conference, the lack of teleportation, the holographic tele-presence already satisfies me.

As a resident of the North, decentralized, and weekly trips to Lisbon for work meetings, I would like it to be a current technology.

It's not yet, it won't be in time, but it's interesting to see it already exists:

Note: Sign of the years, increasingly notice that the references I give as acquired are not for

Newmedia: in a window near you!

Confusing Newmedia with Webmedia is very reducing.

The world of offline is “full” of new possibilities: interactive windows (in 2D), t-shirts with Bluetooth, virtual gardens, interactive walls...

Now... imagine they pass a store window and see a model pass happening in 3D? Kate Moss presenting the latest collection? Coldplay in a live convert? Prices and information floating next to the pieces.

Holographic 3D images in the consumer market are no longer fiction. Soon, in a window near you:
